AP Studio Art
(Digital photo)

About This Course

The way it works:
Students will log in each week and read about the assignment, watch the instructional video, go out and shoot images for the assignment, learn image processing skills, and upload their work for critique. Over the course of this class, students will also shoot for their AP portfolios, have that work critiqued numerous times and submit it to the AP College Board for probable college credit. Students will learn how to use an SLR camera, a point and shoot, or an iPhone camera, and compose impactful pictures, process and edit images.

Course Description:
Advanced Placement Studio Art Course Description:
The Advanced Placement program provides an opportunity for secondary students to pursue and receive credit for college-level course work. This course is to meet the requirements to complete a portfolio established by the College Board. The portfolio must contain three sections reflecting quality, concentration and breadth. The student will explore various materials and techniques in the area of Digital Photography. A student may receive college credit upon passing the College Board evaluation. This course is for homeschoolers, independent learners, those enrolled in traditional education, this can be done by anyone, from anywhere.

Supplies Needed:
To be successful in this course you will need a camera (an SLR Camera is preferable, a point and shoot would be our next choice, finally you may use the ProCam app on your iphone), and Adobe Photoshop. Adobe software is available directly through Adobe as a subscription, available for $10 a month with a one year term at the Student rate. A free online alternative to Photoshop would be Pixlr. If you wish to receive college credit, you must purchase the AP portfolio (approximately $95) and matte and mail your Quality section (top five images) by the deadline given and receive a score of 3, 4, or 5 out of 5. Matte board and prints run around $25.00. Credit will count as general college elective credit and will be posted to your designated college.
For those of you who might like to pursue this at a higher level, a fixed 50 mm lens with an aperture of 1.8 will help you to create images with a very shallow depth of field.

Once enrolled we'll work with you directly to ensure success! We want to maintain a pass rate of 100% so you know we'll do everything we can.

Course cost is $300. We're so confident you will learn the skills necessary to pass the AP Exam with a score of 3, 4, or 5, that we're willing to offer you your $300 course fee back if you don’t pass. Students must receive critique on each project and submit a portfolio to the College Board to be eligible (basically do your part, and we'll do ours!)
